Glossary
automation
Technical terms from the world of industrial robot automation, clearly explained.
Cobot (Collaborative robot)
A robot that can work safely alongside human operators without physical guarding. Cobots are equipped with force and speed limitations conforming to ISO/TS 15066. Kepler-Labs uses 6-axis Fairino cobots in their Gluebots.
Gluebot
An automated glue robot developed by Kepler-Labs that works with standard commercial adhesive tubes. Characterised by force-controlled precision dosing and full manufacturer independence.
Force-controlled dosing
Dosing technology where the force on the plunger is continuously measured and controlled in a closed loop. This guarantees constant adhesive output regardless of viscosity changes, temperature or tube fill level.
HMI (Human-Machine Interface)
The screen or panel through which an operator controls a machine or robot cell. Kepler-Labs develops intuitive HMIs with visual work instructions, recipe management and real-time process feedback.
Digital Twin
A virtual 3D replica of a physical robot cell or production process. Used to simulate paths, detect collisions and optimise the process vóór execution on the real machine.
Machine Vision
Camera systems that analyse images for quality control, positioning and seam recognition. Combined with a Gluebot, machine vision is used for inline inspection of the adhesive bead.
PLC (Programmable Logic Controller)
The industrial computer that controls machines and processes. Kepler-Labs programs PLCs as part of the complete automation solution.
OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
A KPI that measures machine productivity based on availability, performance and quality. Kepler-Labs integrates OEE monitoring into their HMI systems.
UV Adhesive
An adhesive type that cures under ultraviolet light. Gluebots are compatible with UV adhesives and can be combined with a UV lamp for inline curing directly after application.
Proof of Concept (POC)
A test setup to validate the feasibility of an automation solution vóór the full investment. Kepler-Labs builds POCs in their own lab with demo robots and 3D printers.
Sealing
Sealing joints and seams with a sealant. Gluebots are also used for sealing applications besides bonding.
Potting
Fully encapsulating electronic components with a protective resin. Protects against moisture, vibrations and chemical influences.
DXF (Drawing Exchange Format)
A CAD file format. Kepler-Labs can import DXF drawings after which the robot automatically follows the path.
Recipe Management
A system where adhesive parameters (dosing speed, force, path) are stored per product or adhesive type. Operators can instantly switch between recipes without reconfiguration.
SLA (Service Level Agreement)
A maintenance contract with guaranteed response times and preventive maintenance. Kepler-Labs offers SLAs for ongoing support.
